I joined the Navy mostly to take advantage of the GI Bill but during that time I learned it was a lifestyle not ideally suited for me. I loved the travel but, to be honest, the work sucked. My best memories however were when I was able to perform my Rescue Swimmer duties. Never before had I felt a greater sense of purpose to my life. Luckily and gratefully I never had to use my skills (which is an odd thing to say) because it would’ve meant something terrible had transpired. But what it did instill in me is that the only limits I have are the ones I place on myself. Now, as a veteran, I pay my respects this weekend to those who have exceeded what may seem humanly impossible.
