The rover Curiosity lands successfully on Mars and is able to send back images. On one we can see the wheel of Curiosity on the surface of Mars and on the other side, we can its shadow.

I can’t imagine 2012 having a greater peak moment than this.
I’m pretty sure the collective rush of adrenaline for science across all the NASA facilities when this happened created a partial vacuum.
